A Letter from the Head Director
Welcome to WINMUN IX! We are thrilled to have you join us for this year’s conference, where diplomacy, collaboration, and critical thinking will take center stage. You will have the opportunity to engage in debate and negotiation across a diverse array of committees.
In the General Assembly: United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA), you will explore pressing issues of space governance, working toward solutions that uphold peaceful uses of outer space and long term sustainability. The Economic and Social Council: Commission on Sustainable Development (CSD) puts environmental policy at the forefront with a focus on sustainable tourism and ocean health, asking delegates to balance conservation, community welfare, and global cooperation. In the Economic and Social Council: Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice (CCPCJ), delegates address crime that crosses borders, from environmental exploitation to corruption that enables organized crime.
In the Specialized Committee: Washington’s Cabinet, you will navigate the messy politics of the early republic, shaping economic policy and wrestling with the tradeoffs that define nation building. Our Joint Crisis Committee: The Troubles will immerse you in a volatile conflict where identity, security, and politics collide, forcing high-stakes negotiation between opposing factions. The Historical Crisis: The Death of Stalin places delegates at the center of a power struggle inside the Kremlin. The Fictional Crisis: Shrek’s Swamp Under Siege drops you into a world where fairy tale politics and raw survival mix in unpredictable ways.
If you’re seeking a dynamic and unpredictable experience, the Ad-Hoc: Stranger Things transports you to Hawkins, where secrecy, science, and the supernatural test every alliance. Meanwhile, our Press Corps will play a crucial role, reporting on developments and shaping public opinion across the conference.
WINMUN IX promises to be a unique and enriching experience, and I look forward to seeing what your diplomacy produces.
Sincerely,
Head Director of WinMUN IX
